Reaching Beyond Self Does Not Include Reaching Beyond God’s Will
Secular Ambition
In general, ambition is “a strong desire to gain a particular objective; specifically, the drive to succeed, or to gain fame, power, wealth, etc.” (Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia) It is not sinful to be ambitious if your drive to succeed is not so strong that it hurts people, including yourself.
There would be very few worthwhile accomplishments, discoveries or inventions if someone did not first have a strong desire to succeed at something that would benefit themselves or mankind. The drive to succeed has to be powerful enough to sustain the owner of the drive through the many failed attempts he will encounter before he reaches his goal.
