Let the Dead Past Bury Its Dead. Come and Follow Christ

As we look back on sins we have committed in the past, we realize they are washed away by the blood of Christ. At this point we have no sense of impending punishment, but this doesn’t keep us from cringing at the enormity of the sins for which we are now forgiven. I suppose this is a natural result of knowing the wonderful love of God and loving Him in return. If we didn’t care for the Lord, we would not feel ashamed at what we have done in the past. But we should not let our feelings of shame and unworthiness get in the way of our worship of, and service to God.

As we heap the dust and ashes of repentance on our heads, let’s not mix them with our tears and make a wallow in which we become mired, completely useless in the worship and service of God.
